Conflict and Contact: 2312–2379
2313—Massacre of Rāma by Ciphers; OIGC–Cipher fleet defeated by joint TIU, CFW, and virgonid fleet at the Battle of Hyperion.
2314—Corporate Worlds War/First Cipher War ends. OIGC falls to internal revolution; replaced by UCC. Assumed Cipher home world destroyed.
2317—Virgonid explorers discover the planet Pyria, home to an early industrial mammalian civilization. Allies agree not to interfere in its development.
2320—CFW further formalized as the Free Worlds Republic.
2339—Tannhauser Incident; miscommunication results in battle between Free Worlds Navy and United Citizens’ Defense Forces squadrons scouting the Tannhauser system.
2340–2342—Partially in response to the Incident, the wartime alliance is formalized in a series of negotiations. The new Alliance of Interstellar Civilizations, colloquially the Organic Alliance, includes the TIU, the VGH, the FWR, and the UCC as full members, with the xirān, the melakeen, and the recently discovered reptilian uthal as associate members.
2348–2350—Allied explorers discover Ranak, Byas, and Embra, each home to a sapient species at a different level of pre-spacefaring technological development. All are found to be under control of the Ciphers.
2358—FWR launches massive invasion of Kyran space, intending to end the threat once and for all.
2359–2360—Soaring civilian casualties on Kyran worlds prompt backlash from Alliance partners, particularly in the UCC.
2374—The Sukat Incident; Allied expedition to newly discovered civilization captured by Ciphers. Second Cipher War begins.
2375—Massacre of Zevka; UCC world completely destroyed by Ciphers, over 100 million dead.
2377—UCC scientists pioneer quantum entanglement communication after studying captured Cipher technology. Several Kyran clans launch an attack against the FWR and occupied systems.
2379—Second Cipher War ends with status quo ante agreement.
The Road to Compact: 2380–2401
2380—Discussions of a federal union between the three human powers and the virgonids begin.
2381—New UCC constitution officially enshrines pacifism. Entire military demobilized.
2390—First annual summit on federalization begins at V616 Monocerotis, site of a new joint Allied antimatter mining facility far from both Kyran and Cipher space.
2395—Melakeen and xirān agree to become associate members of any future federal government at Sixth Monocerotis Summit; uthal withdraw from negotiations.
2398—Compromise of 2398 reached at Ninth Summit. UCC will maintain pacifist constitution but will not have veto power over use of military force by the future federal state.
2400—Compromise of 2400 reached at Eleventh Summit. UCC citizens will be permitted to join the federal military, but in so doing will be stripped of their UCC citizenship and permitted to return home only after service, renouncing the use of violence, pledging renewed loyalty to the constitution and ideals of the UCC, and completing a reeducation program. First Interstellar Constitution signed at conclusion of summit. Interstellar Compact Navy officially comes into being on December 10.
2401—Elections for Interstellar Parliament and Executive held. Interstellar Compact officially comes into being on December 10, under the leadership of Terran Indira Magnúsdóttir as the first Executor.
Growing Pains & Galactic War: 2402–2485
2402—Planetary Assault Corps, Interstellar Compact Trade Organization, and Interstellar Compact Central Bank officially come into being.
2407—Treaty negotiated with the neutral Yu-Nee Consortium outlining resource and colonization rights in border systems.
2411—Virgonid “Angus” Administration comes to power in second Compact generalelections.
2418—Cybernetic Compromise reached between the FWR and UCC over military and social engineering uses of cybernetics, bifurcating the IC’s cyberneticsand AI industries.
2423—IHC ruling on genetic enhancement technology creates the Genetic Addendum to the 2418 Cybernetic Compromise.
2426–2476—“Age of Peace” sees unprecedented prosperity and calm in human affairs.
2474—Under covert influence by the Ciphers, Pyrian World War erupts between the democratic Raelan League and the authoritarian Lamian Bloc.
2477—Interstellar Parliament votes to intervene and prevent conquest of Pyria by the Ciphers. Third Cipher War begins. Ciphers make early gains, conquering significant Compact territory.
2478—Third Battle of Pyria ends in Compact defeat. Kyran clans Harag, Rhyllok, and Shahak launch coordinated invasions of the FWR.
2479—Kyrans attack the Alliance of Non-Aligned Systems, bringing them into the war.
2480—Twin offensives against Hollandia and Pyria launched.
2481—Fourth Battle of Hollandia strands tens of thousands of Compact sailors and marines on occupied New Eden.
2482—ICN Third Fleet destroys Kyrans in Fifth Battle of Hollandia, finally relieving ground forces trapped on New Eden for eight months. Massive Compact offensives liberate Kyran- and Cipher-occupied planets.
2483—ICS Belisarius launched.
2484—Offensive into Cipher territory liberates future Protectorate worlds.
2485—Last combatant Kyran clans surrender. Compact offensive destroys the system designated Cipher Prime, but the Cipher Empire endures. War ends with the Treaty of Omega Serpentis.
Reconstruction: 2485–Present
2485—ICRA established, initially to aid Pyria and Association worlds’ recovery after enemy occupation.
2486—Articles of Protectorship passed and signed, creating the Protectorates of Byas, Embra, Sukat, and Ranak.
2487—ICRA’s remit expands to the Protectorates, the goal being to aid them in reaching independence after centuries, or millennia, of Cipher dominion and experimentation.
2491—Executor Clarke’s second term ends; Executor Sapkowski elected on promise of peace and economic stability through graduated military reductions.
2500—ICRA operations on Pyria end on schedule; ICDF drawdown begins.
2502: Pro-Cipher insurgent movements begin in the Protectorates.
2503—Pyrian Civil War begins.
2504—ICDF military assistance mission to Pyria authorized.
2505—Increasing commitment of ICDF and ICRA security forces to counterinsurgency operations in the Protectorates prompts growing calls from the UCC and their parliamentary allies that the Compact should withdraw from the Protectorates.
2506—Captain Ian Hadrian assigned to the ICS Belisarius at Byas.
2507—UCC-led calls to end of the military support mission in Pyria and grant the Protectorates independence increase. Opposed FWR-led calls to increase military support for Pyria and the Protectorates grow in strength.
